A hot or cold beverage can be prepared by first steeping the petals in hot water until the colors are leached from the petals, then adding lime juice (which turns the beverage from dark brown/red to a bright red), sweeteners (sugar/honey). For cold beverage, finally cold water/ice cubes.
The red colour anthocyanins, found in red Hibiscus flower are water soluble pigments and are rich source of anti-oxidants.
Honey has been suggested as an immune-modulatory agent with dual role: (1) anti-inflammatory activities through downregulating the inflammatory transcription factors (NF-ΞΊB and MAPK) and/or suppressing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, and (2) stimulate the production of inflammatory mediators.
